Frequently Asked Questions
What is Anti-Idle: Reborn?
Anti-Idle: Reborn is the mobile remaster of “Anti-Idle: The Game”, a game originally developed by Tukkun in 2009. Staying true to the original’s vision of redefining idle gaming, Anti-Idle: Reborn brings an innovative experience to the modern mobile game platform.
Who is the creator of Anti-Idle: Reborn?
Anti-Idle: Reborn is created by Tukkun, the same person who designed, developed, published and maintained the original “Anti-Idle: The Game”.
I have heard that Tukkun is well-known for having a track record of postponing things indefinitely. Will Anti-Idle: Reborn actually be released, and if so, when?
Yes! The sequel to “Anti-Idle: The Game” was originally planned to be developed using Flash just like the original, but with the end of Flash and many other factors, the plan had to change to adapt to the rapidly changing gaming industry. “Anti-Idle: Reborn” was re-initiated in the beginning of 2024 as a serious project, and the first version of the game is expected to be released late 2024 or early 2025. While I am still primarily behind the development of Anti-Idle: Reborn, I have also found many nice supporters to help me with the project, ensuring that it will run smoothly and won’t be indefinitely postponed.
I mean, look, we even have this website. And I have quit my day job to fully devote to the development of Anti-Idle: Reborn. And the game is already under testing with most basic features fully functional. So… yeah, stay tuned!
Where can I play Anti-Idle: Reborn?
Anti-Idle: Reborn will be released for Android and iOS. When the game is released, you will be able to download the game from Google Play Store and App Store respectively.
Is Anti-Idle: Reborn free to play?
Yes, you can play Anti-Idle: Reborn for free. There are in-game optional ads that you can watch for extra rewards, as well as in-app purchases for premium currency and item packs; however, you can experience everything great that Anti-Idle: Reborn has to offer without making any purchases.
What happened to Anti-Idle being completely free, forever?
I have developed and maintained the PC version “Anti-Idle: The Game” for over 13 years free of charge, and as much as I’d love to do the same with the mobile version, the game needs to generate revenue to stay alive. Unlike the PC version, as a modern mobile game, Anti-Idle: Reborn requires money to maintain annual licenses, maintain server for cloud save and community features, cover for marketing costs and more. Besides, I have decided to quit my day job and put all of my money and dedication into the development of Anti-Idle: Reborn, so let’s just say I have to eat as well.
The original Anti-Idle: The Game on PC is still available and will always be completely free, forever.
What is Anti-Idle: The Game (PC version), and where can I play Anti-Idle: The Game?
Anti-Idle: The Game is a Flash game originally developed in 2009 by Tukkun, first published on Kongregate.
The game quickly gained a dedicated following thanks to its blend of idle mechanics and active gameplay, offering something for every type of player. Anti-Idle: The Game is often said to have pioneered the idle game genre, being the first game to popularize many mechanics often seen in modern idle games and is the source of inspiration for the development of many popular idle games [citation needed].
As of the death of Flash in 2020, the game has been played approximately 15,000,000 times and received positive reviews from over 100,000 players. Since the death of Flash, a downloadable, offline version of the game has been maintained and can be downloaded from Tukkun’s Google Drive.
Is Anti-Idle: Reborn a mobile port of Anti-Idle: The Game?
No. Anti-Idle: Reborn is developed as a sequel to Anti-Idle: The Game. While you may find some similarities in gameplay elements, Anti-Idle: Reborn is developed with mobile gaming in mind, so a lot of things are revised to create a better gaming experience for a new generation of gamers.
You may think that Anti-Idle: Reborn is too different from the original to be considered a sequel, but the spirit of Anti-Idle is still there: a unique blend of idle and active gameplay, and something fun to do for every type of player. And it’s developed by Tukkun. Just download it and give it a try – you’ll love it.
Can I transfer my progress from Anti-Idle: The Game to Anti-Idle: Reborn, or receive rewards based on my progress in Anti-Idle: The Game?
Currently, there is no way to transfer any data between the PC version and the mobile version. However, I hope you enjoy starting fresh and exploring all the new features and improvements in Anti-Idle: Reborn.
Why did you create a mobile version instead of continuing to develop the PC version?
At the time of Anti-Idle: Reborn’s development, it has been over 14 years since the initial release of Anti-Idle: The Game on PC. With the death of Flash and the nature of the PC version, the community of the PC version is continuously shrinking and, especially considering the fact that the PC version no longer generates any revenue, I have decided that developing a sequel will bring in more value than continuing to update the old game. Lots of people get to enjoy a modern Anti-Idle experience on their mobile phones. I get more money. Everyone wins.
That being said, I understand that the PC version still has many dedicated fans after all these years, and I may still make minor updates to the PC version from time to time.
So why don’t you put the PC version on Steam, Itch, and other platforms?
The original Anti-Idle: The Game was made with the standards of year 2009 in mind, and many design decisions of the game, the old technology, the lack of features required by modern standards such as cloud save, etc. make it difficult to put the PC version on modern platforms as it is.
I understand that some people are willing to pay for the PC version if I put it on those platforms, but I don’t think the amount will be significant, especially considering that the PC version has always been provided for free, and the development cost to make it possible to put the PC version on those platforms will be too high in comparison. That’s why I have decided to keep the PC version as is – always free to download, play and enjoy. Just not on the aforementioned platforms.
So why not make the sequel on PC instead of mobile?
Eventually, I want to make new PC games too. But for “Anti-Idle: Reborn”, I want to make it a mobile game, because many people have been asking for a mobile version of Anti-Idle. Besides, if I make a PC sequel to Anti-Idle, most people will compare it to the original and will not play the sequel unless it is significantly better. And the original is already very complex, full of features and completely free, which makes the idea of making a PC sequel at the moment extremely challenging.
Are there plans to make Anti-Idle: Reborn playable on PC as well? I want to be able to play on both my PC and my mobile device.
Anti-Idle: Reborn is designed and developed with a mobile-first approach, and its mobile-centric nature might make it difficult to port to PC, or it might be very weird playing it on PC. However, I’ve heard you and maybe I might make it playable on PC in the future! It is currently not a priority though.
But I dislike ads and microtransactions. Why not make the game a one-time purchase?
Just like the original game, I want everyone to be able to enjoy what Anti-Idle: Reborn has to offer, so I have decided to make the game free with ads and microtransactions. While I understand that some players may prefer to pay once and enjoy the game forever, the “free game with ads and microtransactions” model allows more people to play the game, which means a bigger community, in turn making it easier and more worthwhile for me to add new features and maintain the game long-term, which also means more awesomeness for everyone.
All ads and microtransactions are optional, and I try my best to ensure that everyone can have an enjoyable experience.
If you absolutely don’t want to watch ads but don’t want to miss out on the extra rewards, the game also features a microtransaction to remove all ads permanently, which allows you to have a completely ad-free experience for a reasonable cost.
But why not resort to donations like you used to? Or, you know, post it on a crowdfunding site…
Development of Anti-Idle: The Game started as a hobby when I was still a kid, but with the scaling of the project, and the fact that I have now quit my day job to fully dedicate myself to the development of Anti-Idle: Reborn, it is no longer feasible to keep on developing games with funding from donations only.
Additionally, uploading Flash games to Kongregate was free, and I also got a portion of ad revenue from their banner and video ads. For the mobile version it’s the reverse: I need to pay Google and Apple to be able to put my game on their stores in the first place, and I don’t get any revenue unless I implement ads and microtransactions. And then, I also need to advertise my own game, pay server and licensing costs, etc., which all cost money.
However, please be assured that all of your donations so far are being put into good use. And even for Anti-Idle: Reborn, all ads and microtransactions are optional. The full gameplay experience with all features is available without making any payments.
It seems like the mobile version is significantly simpler compared to the PC version. Do you plan to add the same features of the PC version into Anti-Idle: Reborn?
While part of the reason Anti-Idle: Reborn has few features is because I want to speed up the initial release, Anti-Idle: Reborn is made with mobile gaming in mind, and ultimately this means a lot of features cannot be implemented in the same way as the PC version. However, just like the original game, I am always looking forward to suggestions, and will try my best to implement new features and improve existing ones to cater to the majority of the community.
What are your future plans for Anti-Idle: Reborn? What can I expect to see in the near future?
You can read more about the game’s development plans in the News section of the website and the game’s Discord server. As with the original, I plan to include new features and other improvements based on player feedback. Stay tuned for update announcements!
What engine is Anti-Idle: Reborn built in?
Anti-Idle: Reborn is made using Unity. Yes, there’s going to be that Unity splash screen, at least for the foreseeable future.
May I talk about / write about / upload videos of myself playing Anti-Idle: Reborn?
Sure! Additionally, you have permission to monetize videos featuring contents of Anti-Idle: Reborn.
However, please note that Anti-Idle: Reborn includes music created by other artists. Their licenses prohibit the uploading of videos where the main purpose is to let watchers listen to the BGMs (including but not limited to, non-gameplay videos with just the game’s soundtrack, medleys or 1-hour loops of the game soundtrack, etc.). As long as your video does not violate the aforementioned rule, you may upload it.
Additionally, while you are allowed to upload and post screenshots of the game, you may not reuse, distribute, modify or sell the assets used within the game.
